My European city

My European City is a network of towns that promotes the discovery, experience and sharing of local and common European aspects via unique tours and a fostering of Europeanness.

Coordinated by Graine d’Europe, My European City gathers European partners (institutions / organisations from the civil society) aswell as a scientific committee made up of specialists in European heritage and citizenship.

The network is based on 3 main areas of work

– the creation of European tours in every partner city available in differents formats adapted to the audience (brochure, guided tour, treasure hunt, virtual tour…).
– the exchange of good practices (work groups, general audience events, professional meetings…) to raise the awareness of the citizens all over Europe.
– the development of projects and the communication within the network to inform and interact with the local people and internet users (www.myeuropeancity.com).

Exchange of best practices

The network organised during the 2 last years a cycle of 5 meetings and open to professional and the general audience. This project has been financed by the European Commission under the Programme Europe for Citizens

Kick-off meeting: launch of the two-year project and its activities in Szczecin (Poland) / January 2015.

Citizen forum: general audience event  in interaction with the target groups and partners involved / Iasi (Romania) / May 2015.

Innovation meeting : event based on innovation dedicaded to the citizen /  Nantes (France) / December 2015.

Professional workshops : Good practices and training towards professionals / Arad (Romania) / May 2016.

Final conference:  Impact and perspective / closing meeting / Jelgava (Latvia) / september 2016.

The initiative began in Nantes, before being extended to Laval, Le Mans, Angers and La Roche-sur-Yon, in Pays de la Loire, as well as to Caen (France).

Thanks to the support of the European Commission in 2010-2011 (“Europe for citizens” programme 2.3), the network developed in Europe in Padua (Italy), in Sibiu (Romania) and in Szczecin (Poland).

In 2010, Graine d’Europe launched its website (www.myeuropeancity.com) visited by 8,500 internet users.

My European City Network has already experienced a serie of European tours on 8 territories for a wide audience (26,500 people’s awareness raised accross Europe).

A transnational dynamic, focused on innovation.

the network goals

– To raise the awareness of European citizens and contribute to develop a sense of belonging to Europe thanks to European common values.

– To promote the European dimension of the territories involved and highlight the links between the partners areas.

– To collaborate with other structures from the civil society and local authorities through the exchange of best practices.

Targeted audiences

– The general audience: inhabitants of the partner cities, academics, tourists, institutional / professional delegations and internet users.

– The target group: children, youngsters, peoplewith social / economic difficulties or risk of exclusion, rural populations and farmers, disabled and elderly people, minorities and immigrants.

– The intermediate audience: delegation of professionals, companies, institutions, journalists.

Potential partners

– The associations, local authorities and foundations wishing to explore the European heritage of their area and to raise awareness of European citizenship.

– The cities which have applied for or have already been awarded the status of European Capital of Culture wishing to start or gon on working and promoting their own European dimension.

– The networks of European cities and twinning committees wishing to go further in the European ties to built with their areas of cooperation.

Who are we?

Graine d’Europe is an organisation based in Nantes, in France which promotes European cultures: educational tools, artistic and heritage activities, events for a various public reluctant or already conquered.

Media Dizajn, and The Incubator for Culture is a place based in Szczecin in Poland, involved in the promotion of civic initiatives, networking and organisation of events (workshops, networking sessions, exhibition…).

Foundation Iasi – European Capital of Culture is a foundation created by the City of Iasi in Romania (Moldovian region) to promote the cultural identity of Iasi and confirm its rank as a European Capital of Culture in 2021.




Arad Municipality in Romania (West Region) is implicated in the promotion of cultural heritage and, for this reason, is candidate for European Capital of Culture in 2021.

Jelgava Local Municipality in Latvia mobilises and raises the interest of the inhabitants of its area around 3 central themes: active citizenship, sustainable tourism and cultural heritage.

Nottingham City Council (United Kingdom) and its department dedicated to museums and galleries offers events and activities connected to Europe for every generation: Light night, games cities, goose fair.

Eurosoc #Digital is a German independent, non-profit think tank dedicated to promoting democratic values in European societies and beyond. From Berlin it’s team develops and implements civic education programmes, advises municipalities and their public administrations in the context of “Open Government”. They also participate in national and international research and innovation programmes in the context of eGovernment and eParticipation and analyse public policies and provide consultancy services in the areas of development cooperation, European politics as well as national and European migration policies.

Tačka komunikacije (Communication Point) seeks to bring together people from different professional backgrounds who work on new ways of presenting the city and cultural heritage. The organisation seeks to explore innovative approaches to researching, recording and presenting social history, architecture, public policy through the fields of culture, new media and tourism and to empower the initiatives of individuals and groups relevant to the urban and social development of the city.

Associated partners

The European Commission is partner of My European City network as part of the programme Europe for Citizens (strand 2, measure 2: network of towns).

Région Pays-de-La-Loire supports My European City on the regional area of Pays-de-la-Loire since 2005. Within the FRASECOPE first in 2014 Graine d’Europe met its new partners in Iasi (Romania) and Jelgava (Latvia) and then with a several year support to allow European positioning in the area. The network contributes to « Une Europe plus utile pour une région plus efficicace« , the regional strategy.

Département de Loire-Atlantique accompanies Graine d’Europe in its approach to raise the awareness of citizens: guided tours for secondary schools, animation of the European network, cooperation with the West Pomerania and development of a European tour in Loire-Atlantique.

Nantes.tourisme, an historical partner with whom Graine d’Europe developed and is renewing the city tour Nantes in Europe.
