Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority located in the centre of England with 8 neighbourhoods with a population of 315,000 people.
There are two universities bringing thousands of young people every year who study in the city.
With good connections to Europe via its international airport and a fast train line to London, Nottingham is viewed as the jewel and major city of the East Midlands region.
Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making, bicycle and tobacco industries. It was granted its city charter in 1897 as part of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Nottingham is a tourist destination; in 2011, visitors spent over £1.5 billion – the sixth highest amount in England.[]

There are theatre and concert halls,  cultural venues, visual art galleries and conceptual arts studios with a great live music scene and a programme of annual festivals.

Home to Nottingham Forest and Notts County football teams as well as Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the Panthers ice hockey team and a state of the art tennis centre.  Nottingham people have access to great sport and culture, that is enviable in the region and county.

In 2016  Nottingham will host the European Archery Championships with a city wide festival.

City Arts

Based in Nottingham's Creative Quarter, City Arts is a participatory organisation working to develop arts opportunities that bring people together, stimulate change and create stronger, healthier communities. We believe participation in the arts can enrich and transform people’s lives and have been pioneering this approach for over 30 years.

They work creatively in collaboration with communities targeting resources towards vulnerable groups. Projects include music, performance, visual and digital arts and are all facilitated by artists particularly skilled in working creatively with people.

Nottingham Writers' Studio

Based in Nottingham's Creative Quarter Nottingham Writers’ Studio is a unique writing-focused community, a space where writing grows. Run by writers, for writers, at all stages of their careers, NWS is committed to the craft of writing worth reading. Offering workspaces, networking, advice, creative and professional support, NWS helps writers navigate the path from aspiration, through dedication, to publication.

In February 2016, Notthingham will host its ninth Light Night Festival. The event transforms the City and brings it to life after dark with array of exciting activity, arts installations, illuminations, music and street theatre that bring the City together. It initiates commissions for new art work and collaborations beetween artists, individuals, students and businesses.

The festival links various areas of the City Center such as: Nottingham Castle, The Creative Quarter, Old Market Square, The City Library and a number of Nottingham City Centre's Churches. It is a fantastic occasion far all ages and receives support from a number of organisations across the City Centre.
